Jim has built more than 100 homes in the Washtenaw area over nine years, and in that time he’s finely honed his expertise in building. Prior to his involvement in the construction industry, Jim worked at UMI as vice president of marketing and was a founding partner of several successful real estate investment and consulting companies. Jim is a licensed builder and real estate broker. Anyone who knows Jim will tell you he’s a natural entrepreneur; he’s spent more than forty years putting in the hours at the office and in the field. He plans on working his way to partial retirement over the next few years so he can spend more time with his family and traveling around the country. |

Laura loves building! As a kid, her favorite toys were Lincoln Logs and Legos, so it was only natural that she’d find her way into creating real homes for real people. She’s built more than 40 homes in the five years she’s been building and is one of the first builders in Washtenaw County to be a CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist) new construction builder.
A CAPS representative is a certified builder who has been trained in understanding the needs of the aging population. From installing lower bathroom and kitchen sinks to developing a unique floor plan, Laura will create a home that fits any of your special needs. | Prior to becoming a builder, Laura managed things for over fifteen years at such diverse places as TCBY, American Eagle, and Bloomingdales. Laura also taught at Bowling Green State University for four years, where she pursued a PhD in communication and culture. There she was nominated by her students and won a teaching award for her dynamic classroom style. She brings that energy into the build business and is a licensed builder and realtor, holding NAHB designations of CGB (Certified Graduate Builder) and CAPS (Certified Aging in Place Specialist.) Laura also strives to find more ways to bring women and minorities into the build business and she is dedicated to inclusiveness and is firmly committed to working with clients of all ethnicities, sexual orientations, and ages. |

Josh has been working in his father’s business since he was thirteen. He’s been active in all aspects of the business at one time or another and is currently working with the company part time as he pursues his true passion and works toward a BA in Literature and Creative Writing. Josh plans to enroll in the creative writing/multimedia Master’s program at Eastern Michigan University. Josh also works as a licensed real estate agent. In his spare time, Josh cooks for his friends, who urge him to open a restaurant so others can share in his great culinary expertise. He also enjoys spending time in Pittsburgh visiting family and friends—and eating at Del’s! |

Besides keeping the “books” organized, Katie is the creative core of our organization. Many of the home plans we’ve built at Tumolo have been chosen by Katie. She works hand in hand with our architect and clients to create places that are living works of art; reflecting the personal style of each new buyer.
Her creative eye has been sharpened by her work in the writing world: Katie is an accomplished poet, fiction writer, and playwright having won national awards in all three genres. If you look carefully, you might just find some of her material in print.

| She also teaches English at Wayne State University, where she is completing a PhD in Irish women’s literature. She’s happy to transfer the skills she garnered in research to find the latest styles and trends for homes. So far, she’s built two homes for herself and is embarking upon building the third. This makes Katie ideal to work with when building your own home: She understands intimately how challenging making interior selections can be! |

Jeff has been working in the construction industry for eighteen years. We are constantly amazed at how much Jeff knows how to do! He’s a licensed contractor, experienced heating and cooling service-person, a trained welder, and owns and operates Lairs, Inc: a company specializing in brick paver installation and handy person services. Jeff splits his workday running his business and supervising many of our projects in the field. He’s a true Jack—or in this case, Jeff—of all trades! |
